How CVS is Helping Those Impacted by Tropical Storm Helene

Since its arrival in late September, Tropical Storm Helene has brought wide flooding, power outages and destruction to several states throughout the south and eastern United States. As of September 30, 2024, the states below are in a State of Emergency as a result:

  • Alabama
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • North Carolina
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Virginia
  • West Virginia

In response, CVS has activated its Response Ready protocol in these states to aid impacted participants using the following supports.

Access to Specialty Medications and Emergency Refills

Throughout this time, impacted participants will receive reminders regarding refills and prescriptions that are ready for pickup, and those on specialty medications will be contacted to discuss alternate delivery arrangements, if needed. CVS has also partnered with couriers and the Red Cross to ground deliver critical medications.

Additionally, CVS Caremark is allowing one-time emergency refills of a 10-day supply of medications for participants in impacted areas. This can be filled at any of the network pharmacies in your area. If there is only an out-of-network pharmacy available, please reach out to CVS’s Customer Care for assistance at (855) 271-6601.

Automatic Overrides for Refills

To help participants gain quick access to their prescription medications, participants and any local pharmacists do not need to contact Customer Care to obtain an override in certain situations.

Emergency Supplies and Additional Pharmacies

CVS store locations are receiving emergency items (e.g., water, batteries, etc.) to deliver to long-term care patients if needed. When necessary, CVS Health may also deploy mobile pharmacies and pop-up pharmacies in shelters if there is potential for a long-term evacuation in an area.
