November 2018 Special RX Edition of Spotlight on Benefits Available Now
The November 2018 Special RX Edition of the Pension and Health Plans’ newsletter, Spotlight on Benefits, is now available.
This issue details the following important prescription drug benefit changes, effective January 1, 2019:
- The list of prescription drugs requiring prior authorization or step therapy has been expanded to ensure participants receive the most effective and cost-efficient treatments available.
- Certain specialty medications must now be obtained through Accredo, Express Scripts’ specialty pharmacy, rather than through a doctor or hospital, to qualify for coverage under the Health Plan. Affected participants will likely include those on self-administered, rare disease or clinician-administered infusion therapies who do not currently obtain their medications through Accredo Specialty Pharmacy.
- The Health Plan will coordinate claims for Part B-eligible medications with Medicare for Medicare-eligible participants enrolled in Part B. Prescriptions likely covered under Medicare Part B include vaccinations, certain oral medications used to treat cancer, and respiratory medications administered through a nebulizer.
- Express Scripts, the Health Plan’s prescription drug benefit manager, will update its list of covered medications effective January 1, 2019.
Also included:
- Learn about the helpful features of the Express Scripts Mobile App, including those that help you conveniently compare medication prices at pharmacies in your area, find lower cost alternative medications and carry your prescription ID card right on your phone.
