SUPPORT AND RESOURCES FOR THOSE AFFECTED BY THE CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES

Directors Guild Foundation Disaster Relief Grant Program for DGA Members in Partnership with Motion Picture Television Fund

Impacted DGA members can apply for a $2,000 grant to help with emergency relocation costs or replacing personal property by calling (323) 634-3888 or emailing info@mptf.com. Members must be in good standing with the DGA and live in a fire-impacted area.

The recent wildfires in Southern California have left thousands in need of physical, emotional and monetary resources. Help is still available. Below is a list of organizations providing support and services for those who have been impacted. Read the descriptions for more information.

 

EMERGENCY HEALTH AND MEDICAL CARE (APPOINTMENTS, PRESCRIPTIONS AND MORE)

Burn Victim Assistance – CAL FIRE Benevolent Foundation

If you are a burn victim, firefighter or family member of a burn victim or firefighter and need support, call (916) 277-9899.

Crisis Counseling – California Hope

For crisis counseling, call (833) 317-HOPE or visit CalHope.org.

CVS Caremark Emergency Refills

If you are a covered Health Plan participant, for an emergency refill, contact Customer Care at (855) 271-6601.

Emergency Prescription Assistance Program

Uninsured wildfire victims can get a free 30-day supply of prescription drugs and medical equipment or supplies through a participating pharmacy. To find a pharmacy in this program, call (855) 793-7470.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Assistance’s (SAMHSA) Disaster Distress Helpline

For 24/7 crisis counseling and support for those experiencing emotional distress related to natural disasters, call (800) 985-5990 or text “TalkWithUs” to 66746.

Teladoc Free Non-Emergency Virtual Medical Care

First responders, Southern California residents and anyone affected by the fires can get free, 24/7 virtual medical appointments for non-emergency illnesses or help with non-narcotic drug authorization by calling (855) 225-5032.

VSP Vision Care Replacement Eyewear and No-Cost Eye Care

For no-cost eye care or replacement eyewear if you lost or broke your eyewear due to the SoCal fires, call (800) 877-7195. You must be a DGA-Producer Health Plan participant with vision coverage.

To ask about support for replacement eyewear if you DO NOT have vision coverage, call (800) RED-CROSS (800-733-2767).

 

STATE AND FEDERAL ASSISTANCE (TEMPORARY HOUSING, TAX POSTPONEMENTS AND OTHER NEEDS)

California Department of Insurance Wildfire Resources page

If you need help pursuing insurance for wildfire losses and recovery, the California Department of Insurance Resources page offers extensive resources to get you started pursuing assistance, keeping you informed of your protections under the law, and much more.

If you have experienced property damage or losses due to the winds/wildfires, here are steps to help with your insurance claim:

  1. Contact Your Insurance Provider. Report your claim as soon as possible.
  2. Document the Damage. Take photos or videos of any damage and list the items that were affected.
  3. Keep Receipts. Save receipts for any immediate expenses related to the recovery.

FEMA Assistance

FEMA offers disaster recovery assistance—including grants for temporary housing, home repairs, and other disaster-related needs—for individuals and households impacted by the wildfires. Among FEMA’s support offerings is the Serious Needs Assistance Program, a one-time payment of $770 for wildfire victims to cover immediate and essential needs like water, baby formula, gasoline and prescription drugs. NOTE: Individuals can qualify for more than one FEMA program.

How to Apply:

Red Cross – Financial Assistance – Closes February 14, 2025

Help is available for individuals and households. To see if you qualify for financial assistance, please complete and submit this registration form no later than February 14, 2025. If you have received an invitation to apply for financial assistance, please call 1-800-RED-CROSS (800-733-2767) to speak to an agent about completing your enrollment.

Additionally, the American Red Cross is committed to providing individuals affected by the devastating wildfires with safe shelter, access to food, basic health services and emotional support.

State and Federal Tax Deadline Postponements

The State of California and the IRS have extended tax filing and payment deadlines for those impacted by the wildfires. Most individual filings and payments are now due October 15, 2025.

The DGA has assembled a list of resources for members who have been impacted by Los Angeles-area wildfires, including FEMA Disaster Recovery Center location, housing resources, mortgage, tax, and insurance assistance, financial assistance, document replacement information, and more.
